Food Insecurity
The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life. This can be a temporary situation for a family or can last a long time. More than 34 million people, including 9 million children experience food insecurity in the United States.

Grow MobileThe DeKalb County Community Gardens Grow Mobile mobile pantry alternates monthly stops in Hinckley and Waterman. One month it stops at the Hinckley First United Methodist Church at 801 N. Sycamore St. in Hinckley. On alternating months, it stops in Waterman at the Clinton Township Community Building at 160 W. Lincoln Hwy. This is an opportunity for community members to get food outside of the pantry's normal operating hours. Grow Mobile usually offers additional dry groceries, as well as fresh produce and breads. There are no residency or income requirements to visit the Grow Mobile pantry.

Christmas Giving TreeFriends of the Hinckley Library host a Giving Tree for HAFP by collecting the wishes of our clients and hanging them on the tree. Community members can come choose ornaments and purchase a gift to make someone's Christmas wish come true! We appreciate their help in making our clients' holidays a bit brighter!

Birthday BagsVolunteers from the Big Rock Library and Hinckley First United Methodist Church provide birthday bags to be given to our clients during the month of their birthday. Each bag contains a cake mix, frosting, candles and a gift. Some bags contain party napkins and plates.
